Authorization fees
  • Charged each time a card is swiped, tapped, or keyed, even if the transaction is later voided. 
  • These are fees directly passed through the network.

Interchange fees
  • These are the base fees paid to the card networks (Visa, Master, etc.)
  • Vary by card type, transaction method, and industry.
  • Example: A Visa transaction of $2,200.00 at 1.65% incurred a fee of $36.30.

Transaction fees
  • Flat fees are charged per transaction, regardless of the amount.
  • Often listed separately from authorization or interchange fees.

Card brand fees
  • Fees charged by the card networks (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) for using their infrastructure.
  • Usually, a small percentage of the transaction volume.
Other fees

  • These are non-transactional and vary by processor.
