How can I read the Plan Summary section on my statement?

Copied to clipboard

The Plan Summary provides a breakdown of your card sales by payment type (e.g., Visa, MasterCard, Amex). It helps you understand how much you processed, what fees were applied, and how each card brand contributes to your overall sales.

Below is an example image of what this section may look like on your merchant statement:

How can I read this section?

  • Plan: the card type (e.g., Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover)
  • Number of Sales: total number of approved transactions for that card type
  • Gross Sales Amount: total dollar amount of those transactions before any deductions
  • Number of Credits: number of refunds or returns processed
  • Credit Amount: total dollar value of those refunds
  • Net Sales: gross sales minus any credits; this is your actual revenue from that card type
  • Average Ticket: the average value of each transaction (Net Sales ÷ Number of Sales)
  • Discount PI %: the percentage fee charged for processing those transactions
  • Discount Due: the actual dollar amount charged in processing fees for that card type

Why is this important?

This section helps you to:

  • track performance by card type
  • understand your processing costs
  • spot unusual activity (e.g., high fees or missing sales)
