What happens if the Internet goes down?

Copied to clipboard

If your internet connection goes down, your ability to process transactions depends on your terminal’s capabilities and configuration.

Offline Mode (if enabled)

Some terminals support Offline Mode, allowing you to accept card transactions even without internet access. These transactions are stored locally and automatically processed once the internet connection is restored.

Offline Mode must be enabled in advance. You assume the risk for any declined transactions when connectivity is restored.

No Offline Mode

If your terminal doesn’t support Offline Mode or it hasn’t been enabled, you won’t be able to process transactions until the internet connection is re-established.

Alternative Network Options

If available, you can:

  • switch to a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection
  • use a cellular backup (SIM-enabled terminal) if supported by your device

Other steps you can take include:

  • check your connection type and switch to a different one, if needed
  • restart your router or modem
  • use a hotspot from a mobile device as a temporary solution

If you’d like to enable Offline Mode or add a backup connection to your setup, reach out to our support team for assistance.

Having a backup internet option or cellular-capable terminal can help minimize downtime.
