When will I know the outcome of a representment?
If you decide to dispute a chargeback, it may take up to a few months for the whole process to be completed and for a final decision to be posted.
After you submit representment, i.e., challenge the claim, the issuing bank and the cardholder must review your documentation and decide whether to accept or reject it. This may take up to 60 days, depending on the card network and issuing bank’s internal policies.
The final outcome is communicated only after the issuing bank posts their decision.
To stay informed throughout the process, monitor:
- submission confirmation, i.e., when your representment was received
- provisional credit: you may see a temporary credit posted; however, this isn’t a final decision
- final outcome notification: confirms the official outcome
